On a global scale, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death, killing an estimated 17.7 million people each year. This accounts for 31% of all deaths worldwide. For hypertension specifically, 22 out of every 100 individuals fall prey to this serious risk factor. In the UAE, CVDs are the leading cause of death with hypertension deemed a ‘silent killer’ due to its symptomless nature.
Embodying the holistic principles upon which public and global health hinge, PHTT will award its participants an opportunity to listen to and workshop ideas with seasoned professionals in the field of CVDs and form teams with other university students to come up with interventions aimed at reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases in the UAE. At the culmination of the conference, the proposals put forth by the competing teams will be evaluated by a panel of highly esteemed judges, on the basis of feasibility, originality and creativity.
We are pleased to announce that this year, the conference will take place on New York University Abu Dhabi’s campus on Saadiyat Island from November 2-3. This is an open call for anyone interested in the conference to save the date!
